If kids are given the room to consider, they may be creative - often more creative than you. It is sad to saybut we actually do hinder our children's imagination and often times, punish it. What makes matters even worse are distractions like TV, the web, video games and standardized testing. Not to mention the anticipation of microwave gratification.

While it is true that kids need to develop knowledge and skills, they also need to learn how to believe. It's just as important for them to understand how to create ideas from scratch. Creativity is a skill that can make a huge difference in how much success and enjoyment of your child gets from life.

Below are a number of simple actions that will help ignite your child's imagination.

Open-ended thinking.

Encourage open-ended thinking. This is where there are no correct or wrong answers - just unlimited possibilities. Drop your structured activities and let your children go outside and playwith. Let them do'free style' crafts and arts.

Model creativity.

It does not matter. Encourage your child to combine your creative efforts. Involve themtell them stories, role play with them, dance together. Through actions like these, your child will find many ways to communicate their creativity.

Dialogue with your kids.

Make time to talk to your child about anything under the sun, including the sunlight. It is vital to encourage kids to seek options and draw their own decisions whenever possible. Give them time to research and to experiment with several methods to fix problems. These experiences will instruct them to attempt new ideas, which in turn develops their confidence and strengthens their creative thinking abilities.
